Hello guys, i'm back from Combined Corps Camp 2007, today! And i'm now being officially a "Combiner", what is it? It is to term a participant of the above mentioned camp, instead of camper, trainee, trainer, or officer...we are together-ly known as Combiner! Hmm...start to wonder whether shld we name our camp commandant as Head Combiner?
Take a read at what some memorable moments happened at the camp:
Day 0 (a.k.a. advance party)
Went to AI at ard 9 plus to help build the campcraft structure with weiye and some seniors, hmm...rather than building it, i was only helping to move the structure around, just like elyas! Nothing much happened later until 1400 hrs which the trainers start to book in. The interesting part is the bunking in, keep hearing someone dun have this and that, most memorable is kenneth who din bring his toothpaste, toothbrush, mug, slippers. The most stunning is that his uniform cover is made of trash bag! Initially wanted to get him to do reporting every hour with a costume of trash bag, but kept forgetting until no time to do.
Day 1
The booking in of trainees...this was soooooooooo slow leh, we as the observe the trainees as they drag their heavy bags and heavy wooden poles (?) onto the parade sq. We found "potential" candidates for Singapore's Next Top Model, cos they have really special pose when they stand. Joking told some that we shld have a runaway for them to come into the school man! Discipline was really slack, so the officers began switching into "no mercy" mode. During the inspection get to know these five "wonderfully" guys, zhenhao, wei loon, chester, nigel, and nicolas. They are so "wonderful" that they made this camp so funny! They officers dun know whether to scold them or laugh cos they really have very unexpected reaction man, especially nicolas ("huh"...his fav opening line)! The COS of the day also very interesting guy, cos he got really alot of "pattern", and also a joker lah!
Day 2
Nothing much in the day though but night was different. At night was firedrill, and really tekan the campers jia lak jia lak, cos they really take their own sweet time. Some can't even wake up, still need me to go wake them up. Asked them to wake up nicely initially, no response, shouted then got response but still taking their time. Shouted again and rushing them, really super blur leh, guess who are they? (hint: "the wonderfuls") The most memorable moment is at night when nicolas reported to me, he came reporting in his mickey mouse t-shirt. After talking and he is ready to go, i commented to him that you got a nice mickey mouse t-shirt. And suddenly he used his hand to cover mickey mouse and ran out of the room, so unepected that everyone in the room was laughing.
Day 3
Fun of today is the photo taking, really try lots of different ways to take group photos. First was normal group photo where everyone is seated in rows...like class photo lor! Then was a breakdown of respective groups, got "bunny" style and the "look at our backs" style by the officers, which i suggested it. Then we tried jumping in our photos but not able to capture. After the rain is gone, we went to take a formation one. Everyone formed the letters CCC 07, which weiye and me is the the dots between the Cs. Then at night was wandering about the campsite looking for people to entertain me, found myself talking to two trainers on night duty, then one of them ask me why he kena COS, then explained to him. Makes me recall last time someone also asked me why he was kena DN (previously known). Surprisingly both are appointed bcos of the same reason, cos they got this "attitude". After which went to prowl with the four "wonders", and found that they dun feel stress with me following them, instead they are themselves. They shown their normal self, the silent is no more the slient, the shy is no more the shy, so different from what they showed.
Day 4
Yeah book out day! Finish the pack up at around 1 plus and journeyed to northpoint for lunch, had LJS with james, shusian, and jane. We tok about the camp and was laughing away, so many things happened in the camp that can make us laugh like crazy. On the journey home, felt that i can rest liao cos the camp is closed but also feeling sad cos that may be the last time everyone spend time together.
Time for some other stuffs:
My first experience as the Deputy Camp Commandant was dauting at first but later found that the camp has assemble a wonderful committee that is efficient, thus i faced little problems with the planning and execution of the camp. Do not whether i've done well in my duties, cos i kinda of like practicing free -and-easy leadership, leaving authority to the heads in their respective area of command. Cos i believe this way the camp will be able to expeience with many different "styles" and not confined to my style.
Then my another experience is as the Ops Officer overseeing the programs. Initially wanted to teach my deputy and asst what i've learn through my experience, but the result wasn't up to my expectation. My way to teach is to let you learn through hand-on, so i'll make you work instead but after that i wonder if both of them had learned anything?
A big thank you MUST be expressed to the following people:
Nora, Jane, Weixian for their wonderful administation of the camp.
James, Zhiwei, Chelsa, Yi hui, and Atikah for their CC and BCC skills in ensuring the safety aspect of the camp.
Myself, Jiawei, and Chui han for the everchanging schedules.
Shuian, Yu(zhu)feng, Melissa, and Zihui for being able to meet with the big demands of resources of the camp.
Weiye and Yi fang for their efforts in leading the trainer and trainees, also their efforts in the courses of the camp.
Keith, Elyas, Yong yue, Hao guang, Iffa, Hanisah, Valencia, and Angela for all the memorable photos of the camp and not to mention those ugly photos of mine.
Teachers for being so supportive of what we did for the camp and being understanding of our actions.
All HQ trainers for their effort in their dept duties and their work on telematch and campfire nite.
All Group Commanders for their leaderships in leading the groups and their work on ice breakers and night expedition.
All trainees for coming to the camp and making it happen.
*Hope i din missed out anyone, remind me if i do cos the mind not yet rested enough.
Lastly, hope that next year there will be another Combined Corps Camp, and making it a annual event that cannot be missed! Cya guys next year!
